Solow Gearing Up For Champs Day

The Wertheimers’ Solow (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}), already a four-time Group 1 winner this year, will attempt to make it a perfect five in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. at Ascot on Qipco Champions Day Oct. 17, and trainer Freddy Head reported the 5-year-old gelding is back in full training towards that target after a short summer holiday following his win in the G1 Sussex S. July 29.

“He had a break after Goodwood, but he is very well,” Head noted. “We are starting to get him ready for Ascot now. We have just over a month until then, which will be fine. I will probably take him to a racecourse somewhere in two or three weeks. He looks very well and I am happy.”

Head also said George Strawbridge’s We Are (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) will skip Sunday’s G1 Prix Vermeille and head straight to the G1 Prix de l’Opera, which she won last year, on the Arc undercard Oct. 4. We Are has failed to find the winner’s circle in three outings this year but has not been disgraced, finishing second to Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) in the G2 Prix Corrida and fourth in the G1 Prix Jean Romanet last out Aug. 23.
